Oswald House, Kirkcaldy, Fife

I’m a bit nosy or curious shall we say, but I think thats okay. Because my curiosity sometimes gets the better of me and I end up in places that I really have no business being at. But when it comes to interesting wedding venues that I stumble across, I’m all for a little day trip.

So my curiosity took Rachael (my second shooter) and I to a lovely little exclusive use wedding venue in Kirkcaldy in the Kingdom of Fife; Oswald House.

A little bit of information from the website;

Oswald House is an 18th Century Georgian Mansion built in 1793, set in extensive parkland and overlooking the sea. The house retains many of its architectural features, whilst maintaining the charm and character of its era. Although the house commands an imposing country setting, it also sits adjacent to a golf course and is only a short distance from a bustling town with an abundance of additional accommodation for your guests.

We offer exclusive use of Oswald House to include your own private front door entrance, our traditional Reception Room with grand fireplace, Garden Room with views overlooking the park and sea, private bar and our exquisite newly refurbished Ballroom which boasts ceiling to floor windows, chandeliers and incredible views, and 15 ensuite bedrooms.

I arranged with the owner of the venue Sarah, to come up for a visit and a look around and on the day we arrived, Rachael and I met with her and we were invited to take our time and look around the venue.

The venue is visually very beautiful. And when the external building work is finished, it will look very smart indeed. The overall feel is very ‘Bridgerton’ and grand but on a much more cosier scale.

The main reception space was cosy and very welcoming; a large roaring fire was the focal point of the whole area with a cosy seating area laid out perfectly for social gatherings. It’s the perfect area for guests to step away from the dancing of the nearby reception spaces and relax in front of the fire.

The staircase up towards the newly refurbished bedrooms is decorated in a bold but traditional colour palette and is in keeping with the age and style of the house.

There are several reception spaces within Oswald House which can be utilised on your wedding day. Couples can choose to have their wedding in the garden room, in any one of the reception spaces or even outdoors on the lawn area. The ballroom seats up to 140 people and has adjoining doors making it perfect to extend the space to accommodate your evening guests.

This light and airy ballroom; pictured above, is flooded with natural light thanks to the floor to ceiling doors which lead out onto the open gardens. And decorated in a classic neutral colour palette, the space is the perfect blank canvas for putting your own stamp on it.

Wedding guests will be treated to the finest locally produced food from head chef Stephen Pearson and his team. And the house also has a cosy pub area which on non-exclusive use wedding days, is open to the public for meals and drinks.

All bedrooms have been fully refurbished with new bathrooms. And from seeing a handful of the bedrooms on the day, they’re all decorated with a cosy and welcoming feel with some of them having views over beautiful Dunniker Park and the nearby golf course.

The last room we viewed was their amazing ‘Bridal Suite’ and were very impressed with the decor, the light and airy ambience and the vast size; it was huge! The suite is split into living area and bedroom with a large bathroom housing a stunning roll top bath and separate shower unit.

This room is absolutely perfect for any bride having their morning preparations here and from a photographer’s point of view, this room is every photographers dream.
