A Golden Hour Pre-Wedding Photoshoot at The Den at Culross

There’s so many good reasons why I like to have my couples pre-wedding photoshoot at their wedding venue. First of all it gives the couple a practice run for their day, allowing us to stake out the best spots around their venue, making their actual wedding day run that much more smoothly. I’ll always view my pre-wedding photoshoots as a positive for both me and my couples; it puts their mind at ease and allows them to start feeling comfortable pretty quickly. And believe it or not, you can see the worry lift from their faces normally within the first 15 minutes of any photoshoot I’ve ever done. This makes their actual wedding day a breeze because they know what to expect and nothing is coming as a surprise for them.

Unless you’re a strictly documentary photographer, there will be some element of ‘posing’ involved for couples. For me this is more gentle direction as opposed to posing. I’ll ask my couple to do something in particular, such as go into a hug with arms on the waist and from there I’ll simply prompt small, subtle movements. It really is that simple.

A lot of the time I just allow things to happen organically and observe from the sidelines; this is what a majority of your wedding day will feel like for you. We have been told at the end of wedding days from our couples that they’ve hardly seen us and are amazed when they get their gallery as they didn’t even realise the moments were being captured. We try to remain unobtrusive and let you enjoy your day. So that’s why having a pre-wedding photoshoot is so worthwhile as it speeds up your portrait session on the wedding day and lets you get back to your guests and lets us get back to being ninjas.

This beautiful session was shot at the couples wedding venue, the Den at Culross. They wanted a golden hour photoshoot so they had a stark contrast from their upcoming cozy winter wedding in February. The ‘posing’ will be exactly the same but we’ll have a completely different feel to their photos. And unfortunately the beautiful golden wheat field will be cut down, but we’ll utilise the rest of the grounds and have come cozy blankets for their sitting down shots.

We cannot wait until the new year to be be back up at the Den at Culross for our couple’s dream day.
